George Rebane
Here is an example of gross ignorance that begets the evil in our land. This letter to the editor by a rabid leftwinger in the 6dec23 Union illustrates the historical gulf that separates us into two nations with irreconcilable ideologies. The correspondent does not make a single assertion that speaks truth – where/when did Trump do anything that he claims? And he is joined by tens of millions of like- and no-minded Americans.
&&&&&&
Let’s refresh our memories on what Trump said last week in a speech: “We pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country—that lie and steal and cheat on elections. They’ll do anything, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America and to destroy the American dream. The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave than the threat from within. Our threat is from within.”
We will never vote for Trump because he and his MAGA extremists want to dump American democracy, dump “We-the-People” pluralism, and replace it with white Christian nationalism implemented by their authoritarian cult leader. It's dangerous and un-American.
Trump’s disastrous presidency can be summarized with these 9 acts:
- passing huge wealthy and corporate tax cuts (pushing us 8 trillion $ further in debt),
- separating children from their parents at the border,
- basically ignoring covid,
- appointing unqualified ideologues to the Supreme Court and lower benches,
- damaging our global alliances, especially with NATO,
- promoting hatred against minorities, especially Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, LGTBQ,
- attacking democracy through gerrymandering and suppressing votes,
- attacking women’s reproductive freedoms, and
- promoting an insurrection on January 6.
Will our election be safe from the GOP’s cheating and intimidation? Will Trump’s 91 felony counts assure us his dictatorial ambitions will not come to light?
Voters' memories will need to be refreshed.
Robert Gould, Nevada City
Well - Bobby of Nevada City seems to be well versed in all of the Dem talking points. They are part of the "narrative" and don't have to be literally true, you understand.
Calling for him to provide proof of these contentions would just be another example of white male colonizing attitudes aimed at denying Mr Gould's lived experiences.
Doncha know.
If you think Zir Gould is a bit off in the reality department, check out these 3 persons having a difficult time denouncing "calling for the genocide of Jews":
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/12/harvard-mit-and-penn-take-a-position-on-genocide.php
One of them said it was "context dependent" and another said it was only against the rules if the speech turned to action.

Robert Goa'uld, you are in need of professional help.
The huge corporate tax cuts helped us, being heavily invested in stocks in a 401k. Corporations are tax collectors, not tax payers.
Kids need to be separated from their parents when parents are taken into custody.
Not one ideologue was appointed by Trump to the Supremes.
Our NATO allies were shamed into coughing up their share of the expenses.
"Promoting hatred against minorities..." ? Hardly.
"Attacking women's reproductive freedoms"? No, he didn't. Roe v Wade was a kitten that needed to be drowned, and it was. California retained women's rights to kill their unborn children until birth, and other states went more to Goa'uld's liking.
"Promoting an insurrection on January 6". You call that an insurrection? Everyone left their guns at home. What kind of an insurrection is that?
Death to the jacobins!
Posted by: Gregory | 06 December 2023 at 04:44 PM
The funniest part of the Dems narrative that Trump wanted to incite an insurrection is the unquestioned fact that Trump offered fed troops to guard the place and was turned down. We all know that bank robbers planning a heist warn the folks in advance to have extra guards on hand for the special day.
Right?
Posted by: Scott O | 06 December 2023 at 05:28 PM
Not right Scott. Show me documentation to verify your 5:28.
CLAIM: Former President Donald Trump signed an order to deploy 20,000 National Guard troops before his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but was stopped by the House sergeant at arms, at the behest of Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. While Trump was involved in discussions in the days prior to Jan. 6 about the National Guard response, he issued no such order before or during the rioting. Speaker Pelosi does not control National Guard troops.

"Ignorance Meets Evil"
Well - Ignorance or Evil - you be the judge.
Lawrence O’Donnell quotes Liz Cheney as claiming that all the Republicans in the House refer to Trump as "Orange Jesus" and "follow his every command religiously".
I don't know O'Donnell personally so I have no idea if he even starts to believe such bilge but seeing how MSNBC loves to trot out House Rs that clearly don't fit this narrative, ole' Larrys got some splainin' to do.

So Scott you agree with this summation from the link I provided and that you support it. Thanks for doing that and setting the record straight
"There is no evidence that Trump actually signed any order requesting 10,000 Guard troops, let alone 20,000, for Jan. 6. "
https://apnews.com/article/fact-check-trump-order-national-guard-156055113284
Posted by: Paul Emery | 06 December 2023 at 07:34 PM
OK - so the problem here is that I used the word Trump and then a word that started with "o" - so Paul decided that any word that started with "o" would suffice.
Trump "ordained"
or
Trump "offloaded"
or
Trump "optioned"
I said Trump "offered" - and Paul chose the word "ordered".
I can then decide to use the word "offal" and demand that Paul prove that Trump "offaled" fed troops to the capitol.
Ball is now in his court.
Posted by: Scott O | 06 December 2023 at 07:54 PM
You agreed with my link Scott. Simple. Did you actually read it?
Posted by: Paul Emery | 06 December 2023 at 08:32 PM
Scott
Can you document the offer you claim Trump made to Pelosi and when it was done? There should be a quote from Trump and a date he made it. His own Secretary of defense deny's that Trump made an offer.
This is what we know. Trump never made a request to Pelosi. From my link:
"Trump did say during a 30-second call on Jan. 5 with then Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller that “they” were going to need 10,000 troops on Jan. 6, according to a statement Miller provided to a House committee in May 2021.
But Miller added that there was “no elaboration,” and he took the comment to mean “a large force would be required to maintain order the following day.” He noted that domestic law enforcement believed they had sufficient personnel."
https://apnews.com/article/fact-check-trump-order-national-guard-156055113284
Posted by: Paul Emery | 06 December 2023 at 08:43 PM
from Paul's own post:
"Trump did say during a 30-second call on Jan. 5 with then Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller that “they” were going to need 10,000 troops on Jan. 6, according to a statement Miller provided to a House committee in May 2021."
So Trump warned everyone there would be a need for the presence of 10,000 troops to be there when he and the Trumpers would do the Insurrection thing.
Makes total sense, Paul.
As I pointed out - bank robbers always phone the bank ahead of the heist to warn them of the need for extra guards for the day they show up to rob the bank.
I don't need to "prove" anything - Paul is doing all the heavy lifting.
Paul is now admitting that Trump warned of the need for 10,000 troops after denying this earlier.
I knew Paul would come around after doing some research.
Also:
"He noted that domestic law enforcement believed they had sufficient personnel"
Of course - because Pelosi withheld the intel from the Capitol Police that she was advised of.
Had she passed along what she had been told they sure as shit wouldn't have had that sort of confidence of not needing the troops that Trump had advised them to have.
Posted by: Scott O | 06 December 2023 at 09:27 PM
So the total effort of what Trump did was a 30 second call to Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller. That's it with no followup. He also sat and watched television of the riot the afternoon of Jan 6 and did nothing for 3 hours. How do you explain that Scott? He then told the rioters that "we love you, you’re very special".
https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/07/politics/trump-history-comments-trnd/index.html
Posted by: Paul Emery | 06 December 2023 at 09:37 PM
Paul now admits that Trump did warn of the need for 10,000 fed troops on the day that Trump was going to have an "insurrection".
Maybe Paul can explain how that works.
Paul claims that Trump is planning to have an "insurrection" on Jan 6th.
But first he says they need to have an extra 10,000 troops on hand to stop the insurrection.
Makes total sense.
Got it.
and -
"He then told the rioters that "we love you, you’re very special".
Perhaps Paul could supply the full audio or video of Trump saying:
"Rioters at the capitol - we love you, you’re very special".?
Doubtful.
Posted by: Scott O | 06 December 2023 at 10:01 PM
Here you go Scott-a video of Trump saying that very thing.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/video/home-love-trump-protesters-75094574
Trump made no attempt to contact Nancy Pelosi Scott. Show me where he did.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 07 December 2023 at 03:52 AM
So - Trump never referred to rioters - he was referring to protestors - as I thought.
from Paul's link - "‘Go home. We love you’: Trump to protesters"
Not "rioters"
The vast majority of protestors on Jan 6th broke no laws of any kind.
Here's a good over view of what Trump actually said and who he said it to:
https://americanmilitarynews.com/2022/08/gen-kellogg-trump-did-request-natl-guard-troops-on-jan-6th-asks-congress-to-release-his-testimony/
My original point made yesterday at 5:28 stands. Why would Trump offer to have more security if he was planning some kind of trouble?
Also from Paul:
"Can you document the offer you claim Trump made to Pelosi and when it was done?"
I didn't claim that, Paul - you just made that up.
We're done here.
Have a nice day, Paul.
Posted by: Scott O | 07 December 2023 at 07:45 AM
I didn't claim that, Paul - you just made that up.
Can you prove that? I mean with hard documentary evidence.....piles and piles of paper none of which psul will read or even really care about!
Posted by: fishhole | 07 December 2023 at 07:50 AM
Exactly what "offer" are you referring to Scott. You never documented that and made it up.
Scott
It was a riot from Trump supporters who broke into the Capital and for a while occupied the House chamber and trashed offices while chanting "hang Pence". Do you deny that happened? Here's a list of convictions and guilty pleas.
"The Department of Justice's (DOJ) Washington D.C. office said in its latest update that 623 people had received sentences—though not all had been handed periods of incarceration—while around 657 individuals had pleaded guilty to federal charges, "many of whom faced or will face incarceration at sentencing."

Paul - that's your quote.
"Can you document the offer you claim Trump made to Pelosi and when it was done?"
Go back to my 5:28 - what I posted was:
"...that Trump offered fed troops to guard the place and was turned down."
Where does "Pelosi" appear in that sentence?
Paul is so stupid he can't even figure out how bad he screws things up.
I never claimed anything about Pelosi, Paul - you made it up.
At this point all I see is this from Paul:

Ignorance meets evil...MAGA meets Trump
"Former President Trump, if elected, would build a Cabinet and White House staff based mainly on two imperatives: pre-vetted loyalty to him and a commitment to stretch legal and governance boundaries, sources who talk often with the leading GOP presidential candidate tell Axios.
Why it matters: Trump would fill the most powerful jobs in government with men like Stephen Miller, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Kash Patel — with the possible return of Steve Bannon. If Trump won in 2024, he'd turn to loyalists who share his zeal to punish critics, purge non-believers, and take controversial legal and military action, the sources tell us."
The list of possible Trump administration staffers reads like a who's who list of wackydoodle conspiracy theorists,

So Trump did nothing on the day of the riot (yes it was a riot with hundreds of convictions and more to come) for three hours then gave a directive saying go home, we love you. Why Scott didn't he make that call to go home hours earlier?
Also here's a quote from Trump blaming Pelosi for Jan 6
“She turned down 10,000 soldiers,” Trump said, claiming that Pelosi was in charge of security of the Capitol. “If she didn’t turn down the soldiers, you wouldn’t have had January 6th.”
There is no evidence he ever asked that of Pelosi

KRISTEN WELKER:
But when you realized that the National Guard wasn’t coming? When help wasn’t coming?
FMR. PRES. DONALD TRUMP:

In another example of the socialist dems and creepy grampa joe hating citizens especially vets -
Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) says President Joe Biden is siphoning Veterans Affairs healthcare resources away from the nation’s military veterans to serve illegal aliens arriving at the United States-Mexico border.
The statements from Daines come as Fox News’s Adam Shaw reported this week that the Concerned Veterans for America group is urging Congress and federal investigators to look into the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) arrangement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Last year, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas seemingly confirmed to Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) that the agency was looking at using VA healthcare resources at the southern border.
Reports from the House Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), have shown that Medicaid costs for emergency services for illegal aliens cost American taxpayers more than $7 billion in Fiscal Year 2021 and more than $5.4 billion in Fiscal Year 2022.
Annually, Americans are forced to subsidize medical care for illegal aliens to the tune of $18.5 billion.

Post-Modernists analyze everything human in terms of relative power.
Might be a boon to someone who has scraped together a living singing popular songs.
On a related note, I just ran across this, hot off the presses, a fellow has concluded libertarians are actually authoritarians and has identified the libertarian-authoritarian personality type:
https://www.newstatesman.com/ideas/2023/12/new-authoritarian-personality
Note Theodor Adorno, who is the fellow who set in leftist stone that authoritarians were inherently right wing, was a principal in the Frankfurt School, is cited up top. And Max Horkheimer is also cited, also a principal in the Frankfurt School. The piece goes out of the way to show there is a new scourge afoot, libertarian extreme right wing authoritarians like Elon Musk, Peter Theil and the Argentine President-ELect Milei are rampant among us.
The author of the New Statesman piece, Oliver Nachtwey, is a current member of the Frankfurt School, the Institute for Social Research. Marxist social research. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Not once have I chimed in with Trump support... Paul is claiming the lack of Trump criticism is the moral equivalent.
Bizarre.

Gregory
Just show me one time you opposed him Gregory? You claimed he was innocent of all 71 indictments and various civil cases and that all 25 women who claimed he sexually assaulted him were liars and that he had nothing to do with the riot on Jan 6 and that's just a beginning.

It's not enough that CA now has a $68B deficit - it turns out that when they had the money to easily pay back the unemployment insurance money owed to the feds, they blew it instead on vote buying. Now, the businesses in CA face ever increasing raises in taxes so CA can make minimum payments to the feds. Isn't higher costs and taxes one of the big reasons businesses and citizens leave that place? And the fact that so many middle class and higher earners as well as businesses have left is a major reason the state govt faces a record deficit. This is leading to a self-feeding negative monetary cycle.

Note: article was from May of this year - so probably no money to help small businesses.
BTW - how's that High Speed Choo Choo Train coming along? You know - the "Brown Streak"?

Once again Gregory confirms my contention that he believes Trump is innocent on all charges and was unjustly arrested and it was all a plot organized by the left. Gregory. have you examined all 91 indictments in your search for truth? I am not contending he is guilty. That's why we have trials but you don't believe in that unless it's for someone you support.
Read this if you haven't already done so to see the actual evidence that was a basis for these indictments.

Its more that no democrat presidential candidate would ever be brought up on those charges in that court. It's lawfare.
It's bullshite and all competent adults know that.
No, I don’t think you are a competent adult, Paul.

Thanks creepy grampa joe and the socialists -
Items including a half gallon of milk, a half gallon of orange juice, a TV dinner, bread, frozen mac and cheese, laundry detergent, cling wrap, toilet paper, a pack of army men and dryer sheets cost the character, played by Macaulay Culkin, $19.83.
Last year, the same grocery list cost $44.40, and this year, it costs a whopping $72.28 in 2023.

not THAT important.
Look - if some of our black voters have to get cancer in order for the correct old white men to win...
Gotta break some eggs for that omelet.

Don - the party line is that inflation is caused by greedy companies unnecessarily raising their prices.
They've got Biden propped up there claiming "inflation is down".
That would actually be deflation but with a nation 1/2 composed of idiots like Lonely Juanita and Paul they can get away with such BS.
The next time you hear a govt official decrying companies "jacking up prices" ask yourself if then it would be morally wrong for the govt to accept the extra tax money from the profits of such claimed ill-gotten loot.
Oh, wait - uh - never mind.

"Ignorance Meets Evil"
The title of this post by George pretty well sums up our nation's response to Russia invading Ukraine. Since I remember things, I recall all the Dems that thought Putin was so cute. Remember Obama scoffing at the notion that Russia was a threat? And Hillary with her "reset" red button?
Actual military men who aren't allowed to lead our troops any more have warned this about the war since it started:
"Ukraine cracks down on draft-dodging as it struggles to find troops"
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ukraine-cracks-down-on-draft-dodging-as-it-struggles-to-find-troops/ar-AA1lboL2
Russia has the overwhelming edge in manpower and can put way more men into the meat grinder than Ukraine. The frightening talk I hear is from idiots in our country that say "we can't let Russia win this war".
Yeah - about that.
Good luck.

Paul asks about Ukraine? Time to mediate and get an agreement so no more people die for no reason except global power. On a side note, the USA is complaining that the Iranian are supporting the Houthi’s in the Red Sea attacks against the U.S. navy. Aren’t we doing the same thing in Ukraine?

Along with making more Ukrainians, we would need to give the newest Ukrainians time to get to cannon-fodder age. So, perhaps a truce can be called for perhaps 20 years to allow them to age out of their childhood.
This is why you don't start a war without ammo and cannon-fodder at the ready.

Gregory 2:25 - "Make more Ukrainians!"
On Ytube on the right side at the top lately I see ads for "meet single Ukrainian women".
The war must be draining their economy - the poor things can't afford enough clothing to cover their assets. But if I volunteered to "do my bit for the war" that would only produce half breed Ukrainians. And my wife would probably object.
Best quote about the war is that the US is playing a game of "Let's you and him fight".
What a sad destruction of human life all around.

This is what we have to look forward to if Trump becomes President. Putin must be cheering him on.
"I don’t give a shit about NATO.” Thus did former President Donald Trump once express his feelings about America’s oldest and strongest military alliance. Not that this statement, made in the presence of John Bolton, the national security adviser at the time, came as a surprise. Long before he was a political candidate, Trump questioned the value of American alliances. Of Europeans, he once wrote that “their conflicts are not worth American lives. Pulling back from Europe would save this country millions of dollars annually.”
