As a part of its latest bevy of idiotic laws and regs, Sacramento continues its perennial attempt to remove the Second Amendment from the Constitution for those of us living in California. It has passed a new restrictive law (currently appealed) that prevents the state’s CCW holders from carrying their concealed guns in 29 new public areas. The explanation given to our sheeple is that the new law will save human lives, when in reality it will do anything but that.
The law is nothing less than the latest incremental ratchet to constructively remove firearms from the hands of law-abiding citizens. However, it does communicate to the mentally deranged killers and terrorists that now here are more areas in the public forum which for them are free-fire zones where they can wantonly murder and create mayhem with no fear of being opposed by a legal gun.
The state’s claim that CCW holders are perpetrators of mass shootings is utterly without merit or evidence. What the FBI data have consistently shown is that CCW holders are the safest and most responsible gun toters in the nation. A recent study reveals that sworn law enforcement officers, already a responsible and trustworthy cohort, are still six times more likely to murder someone than a gun-carrying citizen holding a CCW permit. (more here and here)
But being able to peddle that kind of pabulum to Californians confirms again that as an electorate we suffer from a widespread, massive, and chronic intellectual deficit (aka are butt stupid), which explains why decade after decade we vote for corrupt politicians of the anti-American evil party to make our laws and administer our beautiful state.
[10jan24 update] 'California Stupid Perseveres and Amplifies' - Now the troop of Democrat Socialists in Sacramento are again pushing through a tax on assets. This is supposed to make the 0.5% Californians who already ante up 40% of state revenues to now start paying their "fair share". (more here)
Did anyone ask Gov Hair Gel if his armed body guards will abide by the new restrictions?
We all know the answer but it would be fun to see Newsom have to say out loud that he is more important than the people that voted for him and he wants himself and his family protected. The hell with you and yours.
Is it not understandable to the American public that we now exist in a 2 tier society where our betters openly declare themselves to be our masters and for us to expect 2 sets of rules from now on?

Stupid Preserves? Why home can Stupid when it's readily available 24/7/52 year round?
Posted by: Gregory | 09 January 2024 at 04:41 PM
Well, he did say persevere, but 'Stupid Preserves' sound like something the left would want to work on. As you point out, it is available 24/7 but even the lefties probably worry that they are running through it so quickly now they might have to have some in the cupboard for later.

Actually when I saw the title and started reading the post I thought it would be about a governor that is facing a 60+ billion dollar deficit declaring that his state needs to have the world's poor rush in so he can give them free health care including elective surgery.
It will be a boon to Texas and Arizona and New Mexico as the illegals go to Kali for the increased freebies.

ooooohhhh that's different.
Never mind!

Here are some of the requirements for being CCW gun holder . The processing time for a new CCW varies, and usually takes 6 months or more to complete. Interview appointments are booked at the time an online application is submitted. Interview appointments are generally booked about 3 months out.
I would contend that ALL gun holders should go through the same training and screening.
Who specifically has contended that CCW holders are perpetrators of mass shootings?

Why?

PaulE 702pm - Pay attention Paul, NPR reported this morning that a spokesman from Newsome's stated that the law was passed to save lives from deranged shooters.

Punch 702p
No punchy... ALL citizens have 2A rights unless and until they commit a criminal act or demonstrate a mental infirmity that disqualifies them under the law. Crawling to a bureaucrat for permission isn’t required.

It’s like the progressives are trying to kill the state…..
I eagerly await one of the regulars showing up and explaining how this will fix things! More importantly…..the impact on the change depth in the guitar case….monkey vs. no monkey for the more ambitious economic seers.

I contend that ALL gun owners should be required to take the same training as those who apply for CCW. That would definatly lower gun related incidents.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 10 January 2024 at 12:13 PM
Punchy... No.
No more than mandated K-12 education would fix your spelling errors.
Posted by: Gregory | 10 January 2024 at 12:42 PM
Paul 12:13 - "That would definatly(sic) lower gun related incidents."
If you mean crimes, that's laughable. Criminal use of fire arms isn't caused by lack of training.
Do you even understand the 2nd A?
Do you even understand the Bill Of Rights?

Ignoring the restrictions placed on government in founding documents, worth considering:
numbers from 2019:
(FBI)
California firearms murders 1142
Arizona firearms murders 213
(Google)
California population 39.44M
Arizona population 7.29M
Almost identical firearms murders per capita.
California firearms laws...jillions. I mean jillions.
Arizona firearms laws. Concealed carry = legal, permit not required. Any old federally legal gun is legal. .50 caliber rifles are legal.
"That would definatly(sic) lower gun related incidents."

Sure! People or groups Punchy likes (or who he wants people to think he likes) get privileges and free shit from the government.

Don't point a gun at someone who doesn't deserve to be shot at the moment.
Don't pull the trigger when the gun is aimed at someone who doesn't deserve to be shot at the moment.
Don't play with loaded guns.
That mostly covers the required material.

Hmmm…..I thought for sure that the piece would have been written by “jeffy in drag” (Epley) or “Opportunistic Mexican” (Breton) but no it’s their idiot retread Philp (Philp) in the Opinion section expecting Ohtani to foot the bill for 17000 undergrads to hang out for four years at various Cal State universities!
Jesus these people are enthusiastic about spending your money for you!

re fishy 2:19 - From the op ed piece:
"If you make $700 million in California, is it too much to ask to pay your taxes here like everybody else?"
Stupid shit doesn't get it. He hasn't (and won't) make 700M in Kali. What law will they pass to prevent this sort of deal? He could just get 200K a year with a contract to have him re-hired by the team later (after he moves out of state) as a "consultant" for 700M.
Or maybe highly paid folks will just demand even more dough if they have to pay higher taxes. Or just sign for less for another team that is in a no or low income tax state like Texas.
The Kali state govt is on the fiscal rocks and you know they won't stop spending.
Stay tuned.

Interestingly, we used to tax assets before, I guess, the California Personal Income Tax Act was enacted in 1935.

"Interestingly, we used to tax assets before, I guess,"
And thus the Domesday Book came into being.
I'd say that it still exists. It's called 'inflation'.

You know what Idiot Juan's reply would be -
"The Republican's didn't let Biden and the Dems spend enough money to stop inflation, so don't complain."
-and anyway, the inflation under Biden is all Trump's fault.

That graph is well-known. Yet no one from the federal government is quick to see that the value of our currency has declined by 96% since the Federal Reserve was founded in 1913. Or wants to do anything about the Fed - like dissolve it.
The graph looks like an upside-down plot of the altitude of the Titanic on its maiden voyage. Choppy waters for a few days before a quick descent. "...but Chairman Powell, we just didn't see that coming. So we're held harmless. Not our fault." Said both the Democrats and the Republicans.
