George Rebane
I view with reinvigorated alarm today’s broadcast joys of socialists, wokesters, liberals, and leftwingers in general celebrating the $400M+ fine demanded of Trump for what is termed his committing ‘civil fraud’. They uniformly and unanimously agree with the ‘legal basis’ on which the New York attorney general prosecuted and the judge adjudicated the Trump trial. All these people look forward to a totalitarian state in which capitalism is banned, the beneficial mechanisms of market pricing, and the ownership of private property are dispensed with. That is exactly the harbinger that letting the verdict stand will foster across the land. (And students of our Founders and Bastiat know that the fundamental rights upon which our personal security and manifold liberties are based will also disappear.)
The other cohort of people celebrating Trump’s fine are those too stupid to think through these ramifications. All their little TDS sotted pea brains can muster up is that if it hurts Trump, it must be good.
Nevertheless, some on the Right still believe that we can find common ground to reunite as the America of yesteryear – this even though no such path has been identified. RR invites these worthies to step forward and illuminate us with their vision of how we regain E Pluribus Unum. (And here is info on a related and contributing problem in our land.)
Yes, Trump has too much wealth. Yes, yes.
If these judgements (hate to call them judgements) stand, he will have less.
Standing back and letting nature take its course, his family will squander the wealth and in just three or four generations, it will have spread out.
Have patience, Grasshopper.

You left out two groups of people cheering the Court's judgments that aren't communists seeking to destroy capitalism in our Country:
1. Everyone who lost money invested in Trump's many business ventures that failed. Yes, investing in something is a business decision, and people make mistakes. But when the valuation is based on fraudulent information, the Courts have a responsibility to weigh judgment.
2. Everyone who paid taxes in the State of NY and NYC who saw the Court judge that Trump reduced his taxes based on (once again) valuations based fraudulent data.
If these Court judgments had been levied on your usual Billionaire, would there be the same level of hysteria? I doubt it.

"...But now, with a Trump/Biden rematch looking all but certain, Barr is singing a slightly different tune. At a Forum Club of Southwest Florida lunch in Naples, Florida, the former attorney general put the 2024 choice thusly: “Voting for Trump is playing Russian roulette with the country. Voting for Biden is outright national suicide.”"

Even with all the dust ups most people expect that Trump will win -
Independents are the most confident that Trump would come out on top — 45 percent to Biden’s 21 percent, a difference of 24 points. Notably, independents also side with Trump in a head-to-head matchup, giving Trump an 18-point advantage.

If you invest (and lose) money in a venture that has been materially misrepresented, there are no end of lawyers willing to take the case on spec.
The case was brought by the DA on behalf of the Biden admin to try to burden the strongest opposition candidate in the next election. This is something more commonly done in what we used to laughingly call 'banana republics'. Now we are one. Enjoy!

Trump is so desperate for money he's reduced to selling Sneakers. Here's the info:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — As he closes in on the Republican presidential nomination, former President Donald Trump made a highly unusual stop Saturday, hawking new Trump-branded sneakers at “Sneaker Con,” a gathering that bills itself as the “The Greatest Sneaker Show on Earth.”
Trump was met with loud boos as well as cheers at the Philadelphia Convention Center as he introduced what he called the first official Trump footwear.
The shoes, shiny gold high tops with an American flag detail on the back, are being sold as “Never Surrender High-Tops” for $399 on a new website that also sells other Trump-branded shoes and “Victory47” cologne and perfume for $99 a bottle. He'd be the 47th president if elected again

from Alan Dershowitz on Hannity:
----
'Dershowitz called for New York State Attorney General Letitia James to be brought up before the bar.
“Professor Dershowitz, I’ll start with you,” host Sean Hannity said. “You wrote a best-selling book ‘Get Trump.’ Where did you get the title for that book?”
“I didn’t make it up,” Dershowitz replied. “I wish I were creative and original, but I got it from obviously Letitia James campaign. She ought to be brought up before the bar. You should not have an elected prosecutor campaigning on the promise to get a particular defendant. Now if she didn’t get him. She would lose the election. This is a variation of Stalin and Beria back in the 1930s when the head of the KGB says to Stalin, show me the man, I’ll find you the crime. This is — show me the man, we know who it is. She told us who it was, Donald Trump, and we’ll find you the fraud even though there was no harm.”'
----
Of course, Dershowitz is now some kind of Orange Man Nazi instead of the Good Guy he was when writing a book about Bush v Gore.
In retrospect, it was all preordained I think. Once you have a metastasized government, the American Left is bound to have control of the beast over time and it is bound to be misused. The American Right, as opposed to right-wing thinking in Europe, simply lacks the hivemind and ability to form coherent groups, being rather individual-minded and all. The yoeman farmer is dead and kapos can always be hired to make the survivors mind their Ps and Qs.

They are very different than us.
What principled folks see as a legal 'bug', the Dems see as a feature. They like the fact that she ran on a platform of "git 'em". And she's delivering.
If the roles were reversed the Dems would be honestly horrified and would tell you with a straight face that it would be 'different'. It's much the same as when the Protestants and the Catholics went at it centuries ago and were happy to torture and burn people to death. When you're on the side of God, the ends justify the means.
Remember:
If Trump is re-elected, you will never be able to vote in an election again!!

"They like the fact that she ran on a platform of "git 'em". "
School yard politics, maybe Trump's noggin on a stake. "This head is for the beast. It’s a gift."
I was musing about the nature of mass politics and it's tendency towards gigantism and misuse. Mass media followed by social media really allows you to expand the animal greatly and the physics of power makes it nearly impossible for the individual to ignore the mob.
A generation (or two) of people getting their reality and interaction from screens, keyboards, touchscreens hasn't helped a bit. I honestly think that there's a kind of mental illness that accompanies that sort of tactile world, maybe an over-fascination with symbols combined with sensory deprivation. Dunno.
Sadly, about the only way to fight a mob is with a mob. On a national level, Trump is the hand grenade of the moment, but it's a lot to ask of one guy.

“Sealionimg” is a trolling or harassment tactic used in social media discussions and blogs. It involves the attacker asking relentless and insincere questions or requests for evidence under the guise of civility and a desire for genuine debate. These requests are often tangential or previously addressed and the attacker maintains a pretense of civility and sincerity, while feigning ignorance of the subject matter. Sealioning is aimed at exhausting the patience and goodwill of the target, making them appear unreasonable.”

By golly, thank you. I had never heard that one and I'm not ignorant on internet slang.
"Internet trolls sometimes engage in what is called 'sealioning'. They demand that you keep arguing with them for as long they want you to, even long after you realize that further discussion is pointless. If you announce that you want to stop, they accuse you of being closed-minded or opposed to reason. The practice is obnoxious. Reason should not be silenced, but it needs to take a vacation sometimes."

Poland and the Demon in Democracy
Liberal authoritarianism’s tusks have been bared across the West
"“Democracy has won” in Poland following the election of a new government in October – or at least so declared the country’s new prime minister, Donald Tusk. The former top European Union official’s party only won 30% of the vote compared to the 36% of his incumbent conservative, EU-skeptical rivals, the Law and Justice (PiS) party, but was nonetheless able to assemble a coalition of leftists to take power. Since entering office, Tusk has moved quickly to prove his particular commitment to “democracy.” Which is to say that, in a particularly striking example of what all of us can now increasingly anticipate whenever “democracy” wins elections in the West these days, he immediately began trampling the constitution in order to jail his political opponents."

One thing that's a crying shame is that some local journalist, purely for the love of the thing, doesn't put together a worthwhile locally-oriented news site. There's plenty of free (or close enough) hosting gizmos after all. Maybe there is such a thing.
What I'm getting at is that you could make quite a retirement hobby out of going to city council and supervisor meetings, keeping track of local sketchiness, re-post the police blotter, keep track of the non-profits. Hell, even do price comparisons of local retail, I dunno. It just requires a car, a $100 PC, and the ability to write. Triple bonus points for avoiding national politics like all the Emily Litellas that excrete their feelz for The Union 'Other Voices' sections, as they never bring anything clever or insightful.
If you were lucky and piss off the right people, you'll get a cell next to Matthew Coulter the next time he goes to La Pinta.

Not at all the same deal. The Ukrainians never had a chance against Russia and will lose simply because Russia has about 10 times the amount of soldiers to feed into the meat grinder. Other than the hold the Ukrainians have over the Biden family, it was never our fight in the first place. In fact the whole thing is a result of the inept foreign policy of the Biden admin.

Seattle radio host blasts irony of gay, pro-Hamas activists seeking 'homosexual Intifada': 'Stark oxymoron'
Rantz noted the irony of the LGBTQ support for Palestinians, saying, 'being openly gay isn’t just a social taboo; it’s a fast track to execution' in Gaza
He wrote, "The extremists plastered their signage around downtown Seattle. That’s when we started seeing a new flyer showing two men with faces covered with keffiyeh while embracing in a kiss. The pink-hued message says ‘homosexual Intifada’ in all caps."
"Seattle’s homosexual intifada flyer is a stark oxymoron as brazen as it is ignorant. It signals LGBT Seattle activists are willing to become more violent in support of a terrorist organization that would order them tossed from the highest rooftop the moment they accuse someone of misgendering them," he said.
Spelling it out for these demonstrators, he noted that in Gaza – which is governed by terror group Hamas – "being openly gay isn’t just a social taboo; it’s a fast track to execution. LGBT people face arrests, torture, and extrajudicial killings based purely on sexual orientation."

Thanks creepy grampa joe for this adding to the already out of control crime -
In another case, an illegal from Peru was accused of stealing $17,000 from a Khols in Exton. The suspect had been deported but is reportedly already back.
“That was less than a month ago, and he’s back in the United States,” Pezick explained.
The groups are also being implicated in home and car burglaries, police said.

Far be it from me to defend Liz Truss but she had an adversarial press......not a fellatial US press carrying Biden around on their collective shoulders.
I imagine it's no fun for you to be away from "the action" when you could be carrying water for a statesman like Grifty J.

I guess they really are not so different from us.
Trump relied on Russians to help fund his projects.
Mike Johnson relied on Russians to help him with his election campaign.
Hunter Biden worked for a company funded by an oligarch.
When it comes to money, Washington, DC wannabes don't care where their money comes from.

"Mike Johnson relied on Russians to help him with his election campaign."
Generally, I'd say that the UK and Israel are an order (orders?) of magnitude more influential in US national campaigns, and that the US exerted more influence in post-Soviet Russian politics than visa versa, but All's Fair That You Can Get Away With as they say.
It always struck me that the Bidens and The Donald were mirror images. One took bribes, the other paid them (like any property developer in a large US city). I'm not sure which is more moral, although I'm always surprised just how rich people with lifetime jobs in politics always seem to get. It must be all them book sales I bet.
Nothing new here. Politics were a blood sport in ancient Rome and the Venetian Doges made a modern US President look like a child.

Looks like Trump may have Alzheimer's. From a recent edition of Salon during a recent interview with psychologist Dr. John Gartner, formerly of Johns Hopkins University Medical School:
According to Gartner "There is also this focus on [President Joe] Biden's gaffes or other things that are well within the normal limits of aging. By comparison, Trump appears to be showing gross signs of dementia. This is a tale of two brains. Biden's brain is aging. Trump's brain is dementing,
Trump, he noted, appears to be spiraling into "phonemic paraphasias" during his rally speeches, which he described as, "the substitution of non-words for words that sound similar—are not normally seen until a patient enters the moderate to severe stages of Alzheimer’s."
"Some examples of Trump’s non-words: Beneficiaries becomes 'benefishes.' Renovations become 'renoversh.' Pivotal became 'pivobal.' Obama became 'obamna.' Missiles became 'mishiz.' Christmas became 'Crissus.' Bipartisan became 'bipars.' This is a fundamental breakdown in the ability to use language. If you were talking to your father on the phone and he did this you would think he is having a stroke. There is no healthy older person who speaks that way."
He also noted Trump's tendency to go off in odd directions while talking to audiences.

Another fine example of ESG fucking up in the real world costing lives -
Several European countries have supplied a wide range of weapon systems. However, the dilemma of ensuring electrical insulation durability has become a sticking point for newer equipment. This issue affects a multitude of nations where ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) guidelines are making their way into the arms industry.

"with Biden's decline in full view of everyone, Trump must be taken down."
I'd love to listen in on the strategy sessions. In terms of cognitive ability and general healthiness of these dudes, there's no point in doing anything besides watching public appearances...but the word goes down to push Biden's problems onto Trump. psul reads something by some 'experts' and rushes over to inform everybody. It's like that smelly kid in grade school.
Seriously, the difference between the two is obvious. Trump may be an asshole and, as usual, just winging it on stage, but jaysus that guy is healthy given his age and diet. It's really kind of unfair, choosing the right parents appears to be an important part of life.

Another self inflicted dei woke wound -
The Harvard Corporation reportedly favored former Harvard President Claudine Gay over two internal candidates who both had administrative experience and far more extensive scholarship credentials. The Ivy League institution reportedly failed to conduct even a basic review of DEI candidate Gay’s academic work.
Harvard Corporation Senior Fellow Penny S. Pritzker and the presidential search committee favored Claudine Gay for her administrative expertise and didn’t even conduct a scholarly review of her work, a person familiar with the process told the Harvard Crimson.
Meanwhile, Tomiko Brown-Nagin, dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and John F. Manning, dean of Harvard Law School, who had both administrative experience and more ample scholarship credentials, were reportedly overlooked.
Brown-Nagin had published two books and won the highest award in American History writing, while Manning argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and wrote more than 40 legal articles.
Gay’s scholarly record, meanwhile, was “comparatively thin,” the Crimson noted.
“The revelation about the search process gives insight on how the search committee managed to pick a president whose scholarship would later come under microscopic scrutiny for allegations of plagiarism,” the school newspaper added.

Mexican president defends disclosing a reporter's phone number, saying the law doesn't apply to him
Press freedom groups said the president's decision to make public the phone number of a New York Times reporter Thursday was an attempt to punish critical reporting, and exposed the reporter to potential danger.
Mexico's law on Protection of Personal Data states “the government will guarantee individuals' privacy” and sets out punishments for officials and others for “improperly using, taking, publishing, hiding, altering or destroying, fully or partially, personal data.”

That did not take long! LOL -
The eldest son of Mexico’s president and the governing party's presidential candidate said Saturday that their telephone numbers were published on social media and that they have received threats and insults. Both denounced the action.
The incident came a day after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador disclosed the phone number of a reporter for The New York Times, which published a story about a U.S. probe into claims that López took money from drug traffickers. López Obrador denied the allegations.

"The Favorite Daughter of South Carolina is losing badly to Trump in her own state."
I'd sure like to know what is going on there. Is she hoping to pick up the crown if Trump has a health issue? She certainly lacks on-stage charisma. Of course, the current President has zero and ran from his basement, so perhaps that doesn't matter.
Is she looking for a payoff from Trump to be quiet? Some sort of after-election gig from never-Trump backers? Getting ready for 2028? Money from Israel/UK/Russia/China/DNC at work? There's certainly no organic movement behind this.
Haley is an answer to a question no one asked. You might as well run Adam Schiff for President.

George writes: "They are VERY different from us"
Is this the "us' you are referring to in this post ?
At the CPAC meeting this week, a well-known rightwing influencer, Jack Posobiec, went off on a rant about how important it is for conservatives to band together to end democracy in America and, presumably, replace it with Christofascism like in Russia. “Welcome to the end of democracy!” he declared. “We’re here to overthrow it completely. We didn’t get all the way there on January 6th, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this right here,” he said as he held up a cross. “That’s right, because all glory is not to government, all glory to God.”
