Sadly those in my "inner circle" who share common conservative/libertarian beliefs are ignorant of what is really going on. They intentionally decline to read or listen to more conservative or libertarian news and opinion sources. They are content to peruse social media crap like Tik Tok, Facebook, etc. They choose to distance themselves to what is occurring daily then express surprise when something they don't agree with rears it's ugly and undeniable head. I try to make them aware and my words fall upon deaf ears. Like banging my head against a brick wall.

Why is it that the Republican Party can't seem to come up with electable candidates for the House, Senate and Presidency?

Don Bessee

Riddle me this oh great ponytail of ignorance how can you stick with creepy grampa joe? -

Biden’s poor economy for Main Street is the number one issue facing voters in the 2024 election. The average Wisconsin family lost $21,981 because of the increased cost of living under Biden

In Biden’s America, a McDonald’s Big Mac burger, a medium beverage, and a medium fry meal costs $18 in some locations, up $10 from 2018 when former President Donald Trump was in office.

The poll found damaging results for Biden’s reelection chances:

Only 28 percent of voters said Biden’s economy helped their financial situation
71 percent said economic conditions are negative
80 percent said soaring prices are one of their biggest challenges
Voters also said they trusted Trump over Biden on the economy, the poll found:

43 percent preferred Trump
Only 35 percent preferred Biden
In addition, among blue-collar voters, a demographic associated with Democrats, Trump and Biden were evenly divided at 40 percent.

So Don how can you explain how Trump is the biggest political loser in modern history-since the 1800's? Can you name one other President in that time frame that lost the House, Senate and Presidency in four years?

George Rebane

re PaulE759pm - by any measure Trump is one of the most successful politicians and public figures in recent history. Continuing to call him "the biggest political loser ..." over and over again is more than tiresome. It sounds like Mayorkas telling the nation that the "border is secure" for three years while millions of illegals are pouring in.

Paul Emery

George

Once again can you name any President since the 1800's who has lost the House, Senate and Presidency in 4 years? Was the economy he left better than the economy he inherited from Obama? If so tell me how it was better. Did he get Mexico to build the Wall like he promised? Did he pull us out of Afghanistan like he promised? Was the repeal of Roe v Wade a good thing? I can go on and on.

Gregory

Punch, you would see better and farther if you pull your head from your ass.

psul: "Why is it that the Republican Party can't seem to come up with electable candidates for the House, Senate and Presidency?"

Odd, given that there are more Republicans than Democrats in the Senate, and more Republicans than Democrats in the House, and that the prior President was Republican.

psul: "exactly what his mentor Trump does."

Yet another childish attack from an elderly man who should know better.
---

It probably doesn't matter much though. Things are run by those with power, a kind of tautology, and those underlings who just love them their microphones at both the national and city council levels pretty much hew the line. Trump has proven that there is a lot of life in the oligopoly as Orangeman caused an allergic reaction in the folks running matters. This situation of the elite loving men-in-dresses, hating Western Civilization, and producing an economy based on offshoring and advertising is probably temporary as it doesn't seem sustainable to me. But, in the meantime, our local minstrels will carry water for their Lords and Masters and occasionally show up to spread a little magic. It's an ironic situation for ex-hippies, but there you have it.

Gregory

"Did he get Mexico to build the Wall like he promised?"

Trump never said he'd get Mexico to build the wall.

"Did he pull us out of Afghanistan like he promised?"
He might have had he remained in office.

"Was the repeal of Roe v Wade a good thing?"
It wasn't "repealed".

Punch be sloppy.

Scott O

Paul will continually bang the same drum ad nauseam to try to deflect from the fact that he whole-heartedly supported one of the worst presidents imaginable. Biden is a lying, senile, grifting, pervert fronting for a cabal of evil anti-American one-worlders bent on our country's destruction.
Expect nothing else from him and his ilk as they continue their blindness to the moral and economic decay besetting our nation.

Paul Emery

Direct quote from Trump Gregory promising to build the wall and having Mexico pay for it. Why didn't he do that?

"I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on our southern border and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall."

Also he had four years to pull us out of Afghanistan why didn't he do it?

Paul Emery

Scott

In you're opinion is Trump telling the truth when claims he had no sexual activity with Stormy Daniels?

scenes

"Paul will continually bang the same drum ad nauseam to try to deflect from the fact that he whole-heartedly supported one of the worst presidents imaginable."

Dunno that he has actually been *for* anything here. You have to defend a position for one thing.

Paul's standard operating procedure is to bang on about Trump or how someone is a MAGA supporter and then sit back and watch the ants run around. It's a form of idle fun plus you get a few bonus status points from your immediate crew of like-minded people.

Now, it's possible to be an enormous asshole on the internet and still provide value, perhaps providing food for thought or the occasional humor, but Mr Paul's presentation is simply as a kind of half-bright dick. He's the political version of a particularly annoying homeless person.

I wonder sometimes if part of the issue isn't the evolution of the USA from a place filled with rather ambitious people doing useful things, hard to avoid if hunger is your alternative, to one filled with Public Information Officers, 'artists', and therapists. A general philosophy of Wine Mom Angst is the pervading heading as men become women and women become crazy.

Gregory

So Punchy, now your story isn't that Mexico would build the wall.

What will the story be next?

Gregory

So, Punch... is Trump charged with screwing a porn actress?

Just what is the crime he's being tried for?

Paul Emery

Gregory

Do you believe he is telling the truth about his relationship with Stormy D? Is character an important value to possess if you're President?

Do you believe Trump has the character to be President if he screws a porn star while his wife is home with a babe in arms and he lies to the American public about it? Perhaps you believe he's telling the truth.

scenes

Speaking of the coming election, here's an idea from one JHK:

------
"Will the Democrats just go through the motions the next six months, awaiting execution? Naw. One way or another, they are going to jam Hillary into this psychodrama.

Stay tuned for a couple of medical emergencies.

First, Kamala Harris will resign on account of a sudden “health problem” that prevents her from attending to her duties. Cancer will be implied but not spelled out. “Joe Biden” will appoint HRC of the Purple Pantsuit as veep.

Three weeks later, “JB” will submit his resignation for medical reasons, and nobody will need to ask why.

Voila! The first woman president, she-whose-turn-has-finally-come, flies triumphantly out of the Democratic Convention in her hometown, Chicago, like Rodan the Flying Reptile emerging from the mythic volcano, cawing her battle-cry across the land. The Golden Golem answers with a roar. The great re-match is on!"
----------

I really really like that idea. Far fetched, but both possible and very funny at the same time.
----

Gregory: "Just what is the crime he's being tried for?"

I doubt psul has any idea, but so far as I can tell it's some sort of accounting thing. Didn't he have his lawyer payoff the nice lady?

Personally, I think it's all wonderful. There's some trouble for Orange Man here, but it's all a marvelous lesson in How Things Really Work. When a political party owns the prosecuting arm of law enforcement in a place, any old thing can be used to keep the grift going. You can just imagine the stuff that went on under FDR, Lincoln, or Johnson's Texas with a bit of handwaving and some midnight phone calls. People tend to forget just how crooked the whole she-bang (so to speak) can be.

Not an uncommon situation, to be sure, but always different. Kay Summersby appears to be a bonafide romance, Lucy Mercer was simply available, Bill Clinton left a trail of assault accusations, LBJ appears to have had more affairs than hot dinners (odd, given his looks, but power is it's own attractor), and JFK has his own wikipage (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mistresses_of_John_F._Kennedy). Goes with the territory and bothers me not at all, although Obama's bathhouse shenanigans might stretch my sense of propriety.

High interest rates haven’t crashed the financial system, set off a wave of bankruptcies or caused the recession that many economists feared.

But for millions of low- and moderate-income families, high rates are taking a toll.

More Americans are falling behind on payments on credit card and auto loans, even as many are taking on more debt than ever before. Monthly interest expenses have soared since the Federal Reserve began raising interest rates two years ago. For families already strained by high prices, dwindling savings and slowing wage growth, increased borrowing costs are pushing them closer to the financial edge

The administration said Nicaragua is selling visas upon arrival at their airports to migrants that require them to leave the country within 96 hours, providing smugglers with an opportunity to transport migrants closer to the U.S.-Mexico border.

We all remember the economic shock the world experienced in 2008 at the end of the Bush term, and how the Obama administration worked to get the economy back on track with the pre-MAGA whining all the way through his administration as the stock market continued to rise and the economy improved.

Trump took the reins from Obama and shepherded a rising economy, giving back to the rich, until Covid hit resulting in an even greater economic shock to the world economy. Biden then took the reins from Trump and, like his predecessors, worked to successfully bring the economy back with the stock market continuing to hit all-time highs.

In fact a lot of states and cities spent the dough on all sorts of other things. And the "anti-inflation" spending was lunacy and made inflation worse. Just because the money was authorized, didn't mean it needed to be spent.

But Scott Trump authorized the money to be spent bu signing the bill. Also Trump ran up nearly 7 trillion in national debt during his 4 years in office. Debt increased by around 6.6 Trillion in only four years compared to Obama who ran up 7.6 Trillion in eight years.

"Trump authorized the money to be spent"

You didn't even read my post, did you Paul.

Blaming Trump for our nation's collective insanity of shutting down the economy and living on printed money is ignorant nonsense. Had Trump vetoed the bill it would have been over-ridden.
Biden claims our economy is so great we have to pay off student debt because they can't get jobs. Inflation is rampant. In fact - our economy is now so wonderful that we're running a trillion in debt every hundred days. Why is that, Paul? It's not because the IRS is getting less revenue.

Trump was President and the Repubs controlled the Senate when he signed the Bills authorizing the spending of the money that led to the debt. Trump was weak and ineffective and had no leadership ability.

Gregory

The money Trump "spent" was formally authorized by the Congress, but Punchy's in-depth analsys of blame left that part out.

The fact is that Trump wanted more stimulus money then that in in the Bill.

"Trump suggests he won't sign relief bill into law unless Congress makes changes including increasing stimulus checks to $2,000"

I am sure that the oh so noble ponytail of ignorance's fiscal concerns prompted him to send back his stimulus check as soon as it was in his grubby little hands. LOL

Creepy grampa joe has lost them -

Democrats in tough races are breaking with Biden over border security, liquified natural gas exports, the Israel-Hamas war and tariffs on Chinese goods.

They’re staying competitive in the polls despite Biden’s low approval ratings and lagging position relative to Trump, but they are worried the president’s political brand will start weighing them down as Election Day nears.

“If you go out there and do a focus group, the focus groups all say, ‘He’s 200 years old. You got to be kidding me.’

A second Democratic senator, when asked about Biden’s poll numbers, said the president’s age is a persistent concern among voters.

“Biden’s showing his age in ways weirdly more than Trump,” said the senator, who noted that Trump, 77, is only four years younger than Biden, 81.

“People keep saying, ‘Why didn’t he take a pass, he’s just so tired?’” the senator said of constituents who are baffled over Biden’s decision to run for a second term. “That is such a prevalent feeling.”

Biden sometimes appears to walk stiffly or with a shuffling gait, which Republican-aligned critics love to point out in social media posts.

The lawmaker also cited the high costs of basic goods and services as another political headwind facing Biden.

“People are shocked at the cost of a house and the cost of drugs,
