Granddaughter Elizabeth has finished her PhD in molecular biology, and after many years of cancer research is now Dr Elizabeth Fernandez and has her dissertation published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications – ‘Integrated molecular and functional characterization of the intrinsic apoptotic machinery identifies therapeutic vulnerabilities in glioma’ (whew!) – for which she was the lead of a formidable team of researchers. She dedicated her doctoral research toward a cure for glioblastoma multiform, the deadliest brain cancer of which our granddaughter and her cousin Ellen died at the age of 14. Congratulations Elizabeth!
Cal Currier, the 16-year-old son of a dear friend, sailed solo across the Atlantic from Massachusetts to Portugal in a 30ft boat. He was amply feted for this record setting accomplishment, especially since earlier this year he first learned to sail for this life-changing adventure that took both courage and a lot technical skills about seamanship and all the different mechanical and electronics equipments on board. His father spent the weekend with us and casually brought this up when we were updating each other on family doings. Cal is one of four brothers, all outstanding young men in their own right. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy describe how their much publicized DOGE program will work in the 21nov24 WSJ – ‘The DOGE Plan to Reform Government’. This well written commentary succinctly and clearly summarizes the new Dept of Government Efficiency and is well worth the read to cut through all the noise that has surrounded the announcement of this major Trump administration goal’s means and methods. As long as you're recommending opinion pieces in the WSJ, you might also want to point your readers to Karl Rove's column, "Trump Sends Clowns to Confirmation Circus."

GeorgeB 1128am - It looks like you haven't heard that Gaetz has withdrawn; and I agree that he was a 'clown pick'. But I don't agree that Gabbard and Hegseth can be similarly labeled, especially when you consider the awkward cum incompetent record of SecDef Austin, with his impressive vitae withstanding. And it should go without saying that the intelligence community has not done itself proud under the bevy of so-called credentialed professionals who have led its various arms and legs over the last 10+ years.

I wonder if Gaetz will end up being appointed to a vacant Senate seat. I also wonder if that was the plan all along... gets rid of that pesky House investigation that sounds like the evidence is tainted.

As I understand his explanation, Hegseth got drunk in Monterey and the woman blackmailed him. While he did nothing wrong, he paid her off because he was afraid Fox News would fire him if the incident became public.
This is the guy you want running the Pentagon?
Gabbard was showing a tendency to go off the rails long before she got sucked into Trump's orbit. She apparently shares Trump's admiration for dictators, and is probably being put there to serve Ukraine up to the Russians.
Then there's Kennedy and Dr. Oz, just the kind of guys I want looking after my health care. The current incumbents may not be ideal, but Trump's nominees are a definite downgrade.

Now thats funny @239, downgrades LOL You are talking about the imbecilic beccera, rachel lavine, myorkis and dont forget the nuclear wast czar luggage thieving sam brattion and all the rest. Just look at the results. 35,000 illegal immigrant kids lost into who knows custody.

If that's unclear, read it a'gin.
Bored Georgeman, you've not learned your lesson, have you?

Ah George you haven't considered the real reason they've been selected....to give progressive democrats the vapors!
By that standard they may be the greatest presidential cabinet ever selected.

"current incumbents may not be ideal" - you mean the ones who stepped all over that little ol' Constitution thingy for the last 4 years? I'll trust the new sheriff in town.
Congratulations to your g'dtr on her PhD. I interpret the title as identifying a (formidable glioma) foe, looking for possible ways to use the already 20My-old (or 200Myo??) intelligence already in the other evolved cells/tissues. Then eventually to combine human & cell intelligences to defeat said foe.
A neighbor's son died of glioma at age 8 in the 1980s, then 20 years later the dad died of the same thing. I always thought there was a genetic connection to the two events. Without any proof of course.
A few years ago, there was a letter (2-3 paragraphs only) to a paleo magazine relating that H. erectus probably reached the island of Flores (Indonesia) by open-ocean sailing, 800,000 to 900,000 years ago! Flores was out of sight of the western part of Indonesia even at low ocean levels. I wasn't sure they were truthful, since the dig teams didn't find a single usable GPS among the remains.

"Gabbard was showing a tendency to go off the rails long before she got sucked into Trump's orbit."
Total BS - all I ever saw from years ago was glowing accolades from the lefty press of a rising Dem star from Hawaii. Then she actually saw what was going on in DC and refused to get sucked into the Blob.
Kennedy isn't mentally ill - definitely an upgrade from the freak show we have now.
Maybe Boardman should check out all the old Ytube vids of Biden's choices getting grilled - most of them couldn't answer the most basic questions related to their areas of purview. Many just dissemble or outright lie.

"Maybe Boardman should check out all the old Ytube vids of Biden's choices getting grilled"
Well, that's the thing. These people never work from original documents or video.
Activist old people are essentially the same as the Reddit echo chambers. It's a giant game of 'Telephone' as third-hand theories and innuendo is passed around. It becomes fourth-hand once you write the newspaper column, giving a sort of imprimatur to a bunch of theories based on hot air and a complete lack of domain knowledge.
It's kind of a bummer really. You'd think that local columnists would go to city council meetings, expose shady non-profits (and, God knows, there are plenty of them), look at BS government activities, but instead we are treated to relatively uninformed barber shop philosophy. It's like listening to radio station news directors prattle on. It's a crying shame, because I expect you run into the same thing at the national level. Most stories appear to be written by interns idly tapping at laptops in coffee shops about some 'stuff-they-read-on-the-web'.
A person might as well just listen to creatures screaming in the night on Twitter. It's just as likely to be true or insightful.

Why??? Just curious as to your collective take as to why Emery, Boardman, Hillbilly (and any other "trolls") haunt this particular forum? Any insights? Are they a collection of "masochists" or do they truly think they can "proselytize" us "ignorant" conservative/libertarian masses to their "neuro-diverse" outlook? Personally I hope TRUMP tears the whole thing down!

Randy 244pm - Do not abuse our leftwing readers for being insincere - they are anything but that. They really do believe in the nostrums they prescribe for the country as a whole and us benighted as individuals. It is important for us to understand the evolution of their belief systems since they are the first adopters of what comes down from their collective Olympus. These same tenets will be the public curriculum for those lightly read and minimally interested.

Randy 1125am - Thank you for the kind words Randy.

I have to tell you, George. I think that we truly are living on the cusp of something amazing and beyond the reality we have had for the past 200 years. The internet has proven to be a great societal disrupter like the printing press hundreds of years ago. It is fascinating to watch and participate. Congratulations to your granddaughter as well for adding her small contribution to the expansive knowledge of mankind!
