" how inappropriate she is as a candidate for any elected office"

I was considering why it's so possible to have someone who is as dumb as a post be so successful.

Affirmative action aside, more due to gender than Pantone number I think (just look at local government), it seems to me that it's largely a matter of the internet era with some help from broadcast media.

There was a time when politicians had to, and I mean had to, stand on their two hind feet and give long extemporaneous speeches. The whistle stop tour wasn't just riding around in a train. Stringing together a decent talk of any length ain't easy and requires a certain amount of mental horsepower, regardless of whether you agree with the person or not. You can have all the backers and puppeteers you like, but they're no help once the talk to the crowd begins.

Gregory

" how inappropriate she is as a candidate for any elected office"

I disagree... she'd have been unremarkable and competent running for a lesser state or municipal position.

Certainly not from Paul Emery's "Man of Integrity™"....!

Scott O

Gasp - you mean Biden lied!!??

Paul is certainly heartbroken over this turn of events.

The set up for this was the assertion by Hunter's lawyers that poor Hunty was being picked on by malicious dark forces in DC out to get him because they were jealous of his artistic abilities.

Say - how's the sales of Hunter's paintings doing these days? Still going for 5 figures?

re: fish@6:14PM

A good observation by Tim Pool:

"Biden calls Hunters prosecution selective BUT ITS HIS FUCKING DOJ

Its not like Trump ran it

The tax and gun charges are fake. The point was to create a pretext to pardon Hunter for ALL crimes over 11 years. It's for Bursima, China, and More"

Notice the dates:

Scott O

The only thing "selective" was the FBI and the DOJ selecting to ignore Hunter's crimes for years until they were forced to charge him with at least something due to being exposed as covering up for the Bidens.

And that's the real crime - we have crooked cops at the helm in DC. That's the actual insurrection against our Constitutional govt.

Continued from previous sandbox re Ellen Degeneres's new Cotswolds 'flooded' farmhouse.

The photos didn't actually show the farmhouse and its fields - photos were of areas near to, or close by. So there may, or not, have been flooding in the fields belonging to the house. And it never quite stated that the house itself had water inside of it. Evidently no one in that part of England has drones to take actual photos for a paper to publish or post online.

So it was another PR item to advertise Ellen & 'wife' to the world. Good press if you can get it. Did Ellen generate the 'flooding' comment herself for the PR? Don't know. Maybe we'll have to ask H. Biden for the facts.

It's as if there existed a whole population of people so useless they had to gin up an Esperanto of their very own in order to bullshit Normie into shoveling billions in tax dollars to them so they wouldn't have to "not starve" by slinging bad, overpriced coffee at Starbs or fill the guitar case by busking on the sidewalk.

fish

It's things like this that remind me why Paul Emery is so fond of The Pride of Scranton.....

So Joe Biden decided to go out by doing the thing. And why not? For all the people who praised him for being noble and restrained, for insisting that no one is above the law and the court process must play out, what did they really do for him in the end? Plunge the knife blade under his shoulder blades with slightly less force than Nancy Pelosi? A betrayal is still a betrayal, regardless of the motives — and there are consequences for that; in this case, the consequences stand to Hunter Biden’s benefit. He is pardoned, with a vengeance.

Karine Jean-Pierre insisted it would never happen. Jen Psaki praised the president to high heaven, as a mark of his high character. Rachel Maddow and the rest of the MSNBC fooletariat claimed that the Hunter Biden verdict and decision not to pardon put proof positive that Democrats were the party of law and order, while Republicans were the party of self-dealing and corruption. And yet — as we all expected, it still happened.

The most insulting aspect of this is not the act of a pardon itself. Joe Biden’s statement — obviously drafted and sent to the press by staffers who, unlike the president, can string together more than one coherent sentence after another through most waking hours — insists that his son was being unfairly targeted in a politicized prosecution. This is, actually, a fair point. The federal gun crime — lying about being a drug user on a federal form — at the center of his Delaware court case is prosecuted rarely, typically only included in cases that are parts of a larger criminal prosecution. If the president’s pardon was narrowly tailored to the gun case, it would be a thoroughly defensible position, even if going against the “no 👏 one 👏 is 👏 above 👏 the 👏 law” rhetoric.

Except it isn’t. It’s a blanket pardon covering a decade of activity, a decade which includes Hunter’s incredibly long list of crimes regarding taxes, bribery, sex, drugs and more — more that we probably won’t ever fully know about, thanks to the sweep of Joe Biden’s pen. This puts the lie in bold: it’s not just a father’s understandable defense against a targeted prosecution of a president’s son, throwing the book at someone over a minor crime because of his last name; it’s an intentional, purposeful move to avoid justice under law — and to save your own skin from your involvement in any potential future investigations.

Tru dat -

The federal judge overseeing Hunter Biden’s tax case issued a sharp rebuke of President Biden's claim that his son was unfairly treated as well as the president's delivery method following the president's last-minute pardon.

in a scathing five-page order of "rewriting history" with the pardon and suggested that the breadth of the pardon granted to his son is unconstitutional.

"The Constitution provides the President with broad authority to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, but nowhere does the Constitution give the President the authority to rewrite history," he wrote.

The judge voiced his displeasure that the president alerted the judicial system of his order to pardon his son via a White House press release.

"Rather than providing a true and correct copy of the pardon with the notice, Mr. Biden provided a hyperlink to a White House press release presenting a statement by the President regarding the pardon and the purported text of the pardon," he wrote.

"In short, a press release is not a pardon," he continued.

Scarsi continued, reacting to the president's statement on his son's tax case: "the President asserts that Mr. Biden ‘was treated differently’ from others ‘who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions,’ implying that Mr. Biden was among those individuals who untimely paid taxes due to addiction. But he is not."

"According to the President, ‘[n]o reasonable person who looks at the facts of [Mr. Biden’s] cases can reach any other conclusion than [Mr. Biden] was singled out only because he is [the President’s] son.’ But two federal judges expressly rejected Biden’s arguments that the Government prosecuted Mr. Biden because of his familial relation to the President. And the President’s own Attorney General and Department of Justice personnel oversaw the investigation leading to the charges," Scarsi wrote.

The judge said he would dispose of the case once he receives the official pardon from "the appropriate executive agency."

Its gonna be a big fight -

The op-ed, by the New York Post‘s Miranda Devine, is entitled: “Dems’ attacks on the intelligent, articulate and patriotic Pete Hegseth show why they lost – a salute to Trump’s defense secretary pick.”

Devine touted his qualifications, writing:

Intelligent, articulate, patriotic, a graduate of Princeton and Harvard, a combat veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, with two Bronze Stars, Hegseth, 44, is an inspired choice to lead the Pentagon and rid it of the woke poison that has sent recruitment levels down the toilet.

He’s a lot better qualified to run the Defense Department than Kamala Harris ever was to be commander-in-chief

The perfect patriot to restore the morale of a dispirited military that has seen humiliation heaped on top of indignity in the Biden-Harris era — from the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan to the collapse of the Gaza pier, not to mention the exhibitionistic sexual fetishism that seems to have infected elements of the armed services.

She added that he would eradicate from the military the destructive ideology of “critical race theory” backed “Gen. Mark ‘Thoroughly Modern’ Milley — former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, protégé of Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden pet and de facto former leader of the military wing of The Resistance against Trump.”

She praised his ideas on how to reform the military, which he has laid out in speeches and his books.

She cited one excerpt from his book, “The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free,” where he wrote:

Our ‘elites’ are like the feckless drug-addled businessmen at Nakatomi Plaza, looking down on Bruce Willis’ John McClane in ‘Die Hard.’ But there will come a day when they realize they need John McClane — that in fact their ability to live in peace and prosperity has always depended on guys like him being honorable, powerful and deadly.

She also cited his recent interview on the Shawn Ryan Show, where he called for firing the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown.

“Any general … admiral, whatever, that was involved in any of the DEI/woke s–t has got to go,” he said. “Either you’re in for war fighting, and that’s the only litmus test we care about. You gotta get DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion] and CRT [critical race theory] out of military academies. You’re not training young officers to be baptized in this kind of thinking.”

She also noted that the military-industrial complex “freaked out” at the thought of not having a puppet heading the Pentagon, and noted that Wall Street was “unnerved” by his selection, “because defense contractors will lose their clout.”

She quoted a defense industry lobbyist, who told Politico: “Who the f–k is this guy?” as well as another defense official who told CNN, “Everyone is simply shocked” and warned there would be an effort to “take him down.”

She also cited neoconservative John Bolton and Never Trumper former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) bashing the pick.

She blasted MSNBC host “Joyless” Reid’s attack on Hegseth as a “Fox weekend morning-show host” without mentioning his Ivy League credentials.

“It’s the same snobbery and elitism that cost Dems the election — not just the Electoral College, the House and the Senate, but the popular vote,” she wrote, concluding, “The times they are a-changing. Trump has the mandate for change, and he is making the most of it.”

PAUL KRUGMAN RETIRES AS NEW YORK TIMES COLUMNIST:

Paul is an important figure in the recent history of Times Opinion. Time and again, he took on the big fights, grappled with policy deeply and seriously, held the powerful to account and spoke hard truths — sometimes as a lonely voice arguing unfashionable positions.

● “If the question is when markets will recover, a first-pass answer is never.”

—Krugman in the New York Times, November 9th, 2016.

● Krugman: Nixon’s The One! Now More Than Ever!

—Nick Gillespie, Reason, September 3rd, 2009.

● “The growth of the Internet will slow drastically, as the flaw in ‘Metcalfe’s law’–which states that the number of potential connections in a network is proportional to the square of the number of participants–becomes apparent: most people have nothing to say to each other! By 2005 or so, it will become clear that the Internet’s impact on the economy has been no greater than the fax machine’s.”

—Krugman, Red Herring magazine, June 10th, 1998.

In fact, the Bronze Star was so prestigious, the Post dedicated an entire story to one man being awarded the Bronze Star.

Ah, but when one of Donald Trump’s nominees, in this case, Pete Hegseth, who is up for Defense Secretary, sports a Bronze Star, that is also worthy of an entire Post story. Yes, yet another trusted conservative source of truth and enlightenment is forced to admit in court that it was made-up. This time it's Dinesh D'Souza, who has apologized in court to one of the "2000 Mules" he claimed were stuffing the ballot box in Georgia for the Democrats.

He blamed the false information on True the Vote, another conservative source of truth and information on the right. True the Vote said D'Souza got it wrong. Both are being sued along with Salem Media Group, which distributed the documentary and book. Salem has since apologized and said it will quit distributing both.

And to think you had such high praise for "2000 Mules," writing in May of 2022: "The lamestream has been hyper-silent about this movie." You were right about one thing: It was a movie--as in fiction--and not the documentary it claimed to be.

Nope - "Capital punishment was outlawed in the State of New York after the New York Court of Appeals (the highest court in the state) declared that the statue as written was not valid under the state's constitution in 2004."

Unless the feds go after him, but even then - probably something heinous like "he violated the victim's civil rights".

Unless he gets done in while in prison expect him to get out in about 25 years. Until then - an easy life with free medical care at the tax payer's expense. And plenty of (sick) adoring fans. Wouldn't rule out a sex-change as well. That seems to be the fashion.
Maybe we can send him to one of those fed prisons where the guards sleep at night and the cameras don't work.

There's overexposure here.

No, there's no reason to overexpose it.

Bored Georgeman wants to take it completely off the table and ridicule all who see any value. I don't think that's reasonable.

Don 4:36 - But the sad fact of the matter is that this woman has learned nothing. She excuses the thieves and naively expects the return of "sentimental" items. They're in the landfill moron!
Then she goes on to blame U-haul.
You cannot fix stupid - and stupid combined with left-wing fantasy is deadly.
Personally I'm not happy she was a victim of theft and I doubt the theft of all she owns will change her thought patterns one bit.
It is a great object lesson for those who might learn from this - but history teaches us that it probably won't.
We now have leftists and Dems in this country excusing tax evasion by wealthy white males. See Daily Kos for total comedy. And they exhibit absolutely not one bit of self-examination for a comparison of what values they espouse vs what they champion.
I have come to believe it is a lost cause.

How can the govt 'buyback' something they never owned?

Scott O

I just noticed the $250 for a "handgun".
Holy shit. When my mother ordered me to dispose of my grandfather's gun collection he had a crap-load of circa 1900 "boot guns" or "ladies derringers" he probably paid almost nothing for. Mostly 25 to 32 caliber - they were mostly all functional and we got almost nothing at the gun shows for these.
The govt always knows how to overpay.

Supreme Court to hear case Tuesday that could restrict bedrock environmental law

The Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday in a case that could reduce the scope of one of the nation’s bedrock environmental laws.

The case deals with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), which mandates that the government consider the environmental impacts of its actions before moving ahead with them.

The court will weigh whether upstream and downstream impacts from a project should be considered as part of that process.

The case could result in the court’s conservative majority significantly limiting which environmental impacts need to be evaluated in federal decisions.

"This one will age well…."

No doubt.

There's no telling what the neoconlibs were up to with Syria. Fightin' Russkies? Picking 3 out of a dozen or so sides? Like Ukraine, fighting to the last Syrian? Following orders from Israel? It certainly wasn't about stabilizing the place.

It's funny what warmongers the Democrats have become and it's good to see the Republicans back off from nation building and blowing up foreigners. Between Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Ukraine, the folks running the show have made a pretty mess of things. Will Trump fix any of this? Dunno. It might require firing everyone in the State Department and all generals above two-star rank.

It should be interesting watching scads of Syrians fleeing to Europe because Assad is gone, after fleeing to Europe because he was there. I figure that if the UK or Germany has so little self-value that they simply want to become a third-rate Third World country, that's cool. Things have gone wrong for 1000 years before and will again, Earth abides.

Say what you like about Democratic leadership, they ain't stupid. They're venal, but not stupid.

"By one metric, the Harris campaign was a formidable organization. She raised over $1 billion, setting a record for the most money brought in in a single quarter. But reporting that has come out since Election Day demonstrates that a great deal of this money was squandered and might as well have been set on fire. A lot of people appear to have lined their pockets, while Harris neglected to fund some of the core pieces of a solid organizing apparatus. The Harris campaign spent everything they took in, burning through virtually the whole billion. "

https://www.currentaffairs.org/news/how-much-of-the-harris-campaign-was-a-scam

My own guess is that they were convinced they were going to win no matter what. Blew the money having a fun time. Assumed that they'd have plenty of time once in office to bury bodies, burn records, fill the coffers with a few shakedowns.

The wokesters revenge on the way out the door and screws citizens -

The Biden administration is reportedly spending their final weeks quietly clearing away unused southern border wall materials to put up for auction — a move characterized by some lawmakers as an apparent ploy to sabotage President-elect Donald Trump’s goal to secure the US-Mexico border.

Alarming footage taken by a US Customs and Border Agent captured numerous flatbed trucks hauling away dismantled sections of the steel wall near Tucson, Arizona – a hotspot for illegal crossings – with the agent estimating a half-mile’s worth of parts are being removed daily, The Daily Wire reported.

“They are taking it from three sections: Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points,” the agent, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told the outlet.

You need a place, a kind of cauldron really, where a person can gather up all the unlimited 3rd world immigration, stylish child mutilation, Dylan Mulvaney, insane middle-aged Karen, affirmative action, Rob Reiner sorts of folks. Without the Democratic Party, what would regular people do with them? They'd probably all wander into traffic and get hit by a bus, and there'd be a real mess.

Its nice to see the level of support for cleaning up the DOD and here are a couple of great suggestions -

Growth in staff size and the proliferation of unneeded headquarters is accompanied by a strong tendency to “over-officer” the force, one factor in the explosion of personnel costs since 9/11. In 2024, one in six soldiers is a commissioned officer (a 21 percent increase since 2000). About one-third of the Army's personnel budget goes to officer pay and allowances. Between 1965 and 2018, the number of general and flag officers in the U.S. military as a percentage of the total force increased by 46 percent; of 4-stars by 114 percent; and of 3-stars by 149 percent. Such deliberate rank-inflation and over-staffing contributes to a bureaucratic culture that demands constant reporting from junior commanders, so much so that one authoritative Army War College study found a “suffocating amount of mandatory requirements” they are “literally unable to complete…forcing them to resort to dishonesty evasion.” Almost certainly, this environment contributes to an exodus of young officers who are frustrated by crushing administrative burdens they cannot reconcile with their duty to train their soldiers for war.

In short, the Army should shutter those organizations not deemed essential, reduce the officer-to-enlisted ratio, and streamline its bloated staffs. These measures will increase the number of billets available to operational units, decrease unnecessary reporting requirements on them, reduce personnel costs and increase the productivity and efficiency of those headquarters that remain. Leaner and flatter are watchwords in the private sector—and are clearly priorities for the incoming administration. America’s Army should adopt them as well.
