[“Five-minute EV charging, while ambitious, is being actively developed by companies like BYD and CATL. BYD's "Super e-Platform" promises 400 km of range in 5 minutes. CATL, with its battery technology, aims for even greater range gains in the same timeframe. This is achieved through megawatt charging and advanced battery chemistry.” This will completely change the EV landscape. I wonder why it’s not getting more press. gjr]
Polling update: Trump: Favorable/Unfavorable polling

Not so fast ya po ol ponytail of ignorance -
Here is something you wont see on the walking dead so-called news channels like cnn, msnbc etc. -
Over the five polling days between June 8-12, Rasmussen surveyed 1,772 likely voters and found that Trump enjoys an overall 53 percent job approval rating. This includes 54 percent approval from black voters and 53 percent support from Hispanic voters. White voters come in at 53 percent. I don’t think I ever remember a Republican president enjoying a higher job approval rating from black voters compared to white voters.
A total of 59 percent of men approve of the job Trump is doing, compared to 49 percent of women.
What must be especially demoralizing about these polling results for Democrats is that it was during this same time (June 9-12) that the corporate media launched a jihad against Trump for deporting illegal immigrants out of Los Angeles. The media and Democrats even attempted to blame the two-term president for the violent, left-wing riots in Los Angeles that were encouraged by elected Democrats and only brought under control when Trump sent in the U.S. Marines after federalizing the National Guard.

"Five-minute EV charging, while ambitious"
I'll say. Consider the charging station required or even the wire. 500,000 watts? Are they 1000V or something? Jeez.
I think the low hanging fruit in EVs will end up being reductions in battery weight (lower range, newer battery tech), although aero might remain unchanged. It's sure hard to beat liquid fuels for energy density.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled psul puling about Trump.
Posted by: scenes | 17 June 2025 at 07:43 AM
A quick bit of research shows me that Tesla fast charging is already at 250 kW (and Cybertruck can accept 350 kW).
That doesn't even seem right. Crazy. Maybe double that is reasonable.
Posted by: scenes | 17 June 2025 at 07:47 AM
re scenes 743am - And now we come to the electric power grid. From where are we going to get all those joules to pump the (thousands of?) 5-min charging stations?
Posted by: George Rebane | 17 June 2025 at 11:55 AM
GR@11:55AM
No doubt the Tesla EV refueling stations load balance in some way, so you don't need the maximum amount, but I agree it's something of a problem.
I seem to remember that passenger car electrification takes something like 25% of the grid. Since the power grid is run right on the ragged edge (gotta be efficient doncha know) I can imagine the build-out required. Double bonus points for electric heat, electric hot water.
All designed by people with PowerPoint charts in Sacramento. No doubt the cost will be foisted off on the public (WE'LL USE YOUR EV AS A STORAGE BATTERY! YOU MUST PUT SOLAR ON YOUR HOUSE!!). Gack.
The best part is how all of post-1900 society goes away if some fool runs into the wrong pole. Cascading failures galore. It looks good on paper though.

You are right Rasmussen is one of only two polls that come out in Trumps favor only two out of 16. The numbers are 14 negative two positive historic low numbers for a President in the first summer after the election.
Posted by: Paul Emery | 17 June 2025 at 12:21 PM
So, Punch, make your numbers even better by starting new polling organizations that are Dem leaning.
Imagine, ten more Dem polls would give you truly spectacular numbers.
Rasmussen is historically accurate.
Posted by: Gregory | 17 June 2025 at 12:29 PM
Gregory
Hmmm.
Can you explain they why Fox polls show Trump with a pathetic -10 negative favor-ability rating. Do you consider then Fox to be Dem leaning?
You are always on Trumps side even in this case where only 2 out of 15 polls show Trump with a favorability edge?

Greasy gavin set for another loss -
While judges on the panel dropped few definitive hints about which direction they were actually leaning, the bulk of their questions appeared to go against California.
“Where does the statute say that issuing it through the governor requires either the governor’s consent, requires consultation with the governor? Where in the text do you take that from?” Judge Mark Bennett, a Trump appointee, asked at one point.
Bennett then floated the possibility that the panel may disagree with that interpretation and view the statutory phrasing “through the governors” as a “ministerial task,”
“It’s a very roundabout way of imposing a consultation requirement,” Judge Eric Miller, another Trump appointee, remarked at one point about the language of that statute.
The statute in question laid out three possible conditions — the risk of invasion, rebellion, or inability to execute US laws — in which a president “may call into federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary.”
“If we were writing on a blank slate, I would tend to agree with you, but the problem that I see for you is that [Martin v.] Mott seemed to be dealing with very similar phrasing,” Sung said at one point. “It seemingly rejected the exact argument that you’re making.”
Martin v. Mott was a 1827 Supreme Court case that dealt with a New York militiaman who refused to serve during the War of 1812 and ruled that a president had the ability, under a different, but somewhat similar law, to call upon state militias.
Judges brought up Martin v. Mott a few times during oral arguments and noted similarities between the language in the statute Trump invoked and the law at the center of the 1827 case.
“I think the plaintiffs have an extraordinarily dangerous interpretation of that statute,” Brett Shumate, the recently confirmed head of the Department of Justice’s Civil Division, argued.
“In their very reading of the statute, Governor Newsom could pocket veto the president’s orders, not convey them and wait for somebody to come down to Sacramento and consult with him before he issues that order,” he added.
“That’s not what the statue said. The statute says ‘through the governor,’ it doesn’t say ‘by the governor.'”
Trump’s move marks the first time a president has mobilized the National Guard to address upheaval in Los Angeles since the Rodney King riots in 1992.
It’s the first time a president has federalized a state’s National Guard since President Lyndon Johnson did so against Alabama Governor George Wallace in 1965 to safeguard civil rights marchers.

Bad more bad news for team lefty -
By a 12-point margin in the latest Harvard-Harris poll, voters support President Trump using the National Guard to quell the recent anti-law enforcement riots in Democrat-run Los Angeles.
On June 11 and 12, Harvard-Harris surveyed 2,097 registered voters and asked, “Do you support or oppose the decision to bring in the national guard to help suppress anti-ICE riots?” A clear majority of 56 percent said they support the decision, while only 44 percent oppose.
Another argument the regime media are losing is what to do with criminal illegals. When asked do “you favor or oppose sending illegal immigrants who are convicted and imprisoned to El Salvador or another country to serve their sentences?”, 61 percent said yes, while only 39 percent said no.
When asked specifically about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the illegal alien deported by Trump and turned into a saint and “Maryland Man” by Democrats and the legacy media, 62 percent believe he is an MS-13 gang member, while only 32 percent said he “should have been defended.”
A recent Pew poll found that 83 percent of those surveyed favored all (32 percent) or some (51 percent) illegal aliens should be deported.
A league of American Workers poll taken earlier this month shows that 53 percent of Hispanics “somewhat” or “strongly” support Trump’s deportation policy.
We all saw CNN freak out over the American people’s broad support for Trump’s immigration policies:

fish 9:35 - I'm sure there will be all sorts of unofficial saber-rattling "leaks" from the White House to try to get Iran to come to their senses.
One thing that Trump said over and over while he ran was that he would not let Iran get nukes. Because Iran is run by Psycho-Muslims who care for nothing other than to make a big mess of us and Israel.
What most of us are hoping for is that Israel can degrade Iran's capabilities in aerial warfare and proceed to wear down their oil and port facilities to the point that the people of Iran will have had enough and install some sort of western oriented govt such as existed when the Shah was in power.
Yes - I know - good luck with that. But it's the best option right now.

Happy Juneteenth, everyone!
It commemmorates the day in 1865 that the Confederacy's last stand in Texas was defeated and the slaves in Texas were told they were free.
Slaves owned in non-Confederate slave states, Kentucky and Delaware, had to wait for December 31 for the 13th amendment to become active, and there were slaves on a Navy ship under sail and those folks were freed in England.
Delaware waited until the very last minute. For shame, Delaware.

fish 12:29 - "the US using nuclear weapons of behalf of another sovereign"
I think the "N" word is being used strictly as a scare tactic - and I could be wrong.
If we did pop a nuke on their underground facility, they would justify it as necessary to destroy the weapon of a "sworn enemy" of the US. I don't think Israel would even be mentioned.
I keep hearing that a bunker buster wouldn't do the trick but I'm not hearing anything about the capability of 3 or 4 in succession. Pretty sure that if we dropped one, Iran wouldn't be able to stop us from augering right down as far as we want.
I'm a long ways from the action and the people that actually know what is really going on.
My only true knowledge is that Israel has decided there isn't any more time to talk. And I trust their intel on the matter over anyone else's right now.

Islam has been at it (conquering all non-believers) for such a long time, that the definition of 'immediate' may have to consider that 50 years may be immediate in some cases. Just 50 years ago, we didn't have England under siege; or the U.S. starting to be under siege; or Muslim countries having a gazillion of our dollars for oil.
Islam will never accede to western democracy - that's not in the Koran. How will things be here for us in 2075 AD?

You just know how much good that'll do. There's nothing that a coalition of the homeless industrial complex and well-meaning low-competence people can't accomplish. Oops, I meant 'can'.

Word!
My fellow citizens: I did not emigrate to the USA fifty-five years ago, from the Socialist Republic, with its “dictatorship of the proletariat,” with the expectation to live under another autocratic dictatorship of a mentally incapacitated “President,” his cabinet of incompetent sycophants “yes, Mr. President” personalities, an impotent Congress, and a segment of the US public supporting fascism.
“Mr. President” manifests symptoms of dementia (primarily in his speech). He is afflicted by a narcissistic personality disorder and sociopathy mental conditions. Due to these conditions and other deficiencies of his conduct and personality, he is disqualified to hold the position of the Presidency of USA.
The “Republican” party of today is a cult of personality, a Political Party in Name Only.
What can I do? I shall deny any support, in whatever form or shape, to this current ruling regime. I shall not vote for or support any “Republican” for any position, in government or elsewhere. I shall vote with my dollars, for any purchase, whenever feasible or possible (no driving a Tesla, for example). I shall wear a lapel pin with the US flag. I shall fulfill my duties as a citizen of USA. I shall hope that the MAGA people will wise up!

Milan Vodicka, Ph.D. - a well known lefty crank to the readers of the Union.
As a person who claims to possess a doctorate he knows a diatribe consisting of nothing but personal insults with zero facts or evidence is just spittle-blowing blather.
He is - like all other folks with TDS - unaware that his stated intended actions show that he is enjoying the protection of Constitutional liberties that he wouldn't have if the fed govt was autocratic or dictatorial.
Nothing but rock-throwing BS.

"As a person who claims to possess a doctorate "
C'est l'arnaque. There's doctorates and there's doctorates, but who am I to judge?
Bummer that letters to the editor aren't ever things that people have domain knowledge in or real experience with. I'd sure prefer some diatribe on potholes or the idiots at a Board of Supervisors meeting. Instead, you get feelz-based columns on national personalities, although TRUMP IS HITLER is losing a bit of it's punch.
Like the Chinese guy said in 'Empire of Dust', "It's all so tiresome".

Both under indictment for their crimes
Bozo throwing Tulsi under the bus (a know-nothing woman in his mind, no doubt)
BeBe has been saying Iran's nukes are just around the corner since the 1990s.

"Punchable Texan, Ted Cruz says the bible tells him to go with Israel or be cursed."
"Punchable" - I guess that's what BeerBelly resorts to when he has no facts or reason to argue with - just violence.
And to compare that opinion of Ted's with the ongoing violence by the left is pretty damn lame.
Nut jobs are the issue - not their religion.
And the left seems to be cornering the market on them right now. Driven by fantasy, hysteria, fear and a complete lack of education in reality.

RH 103pm - As practiced by your tribe, you continue to ignore the evidence on covering the Minnesota shooter. The main lamestream outlets did not jump on your Christian nut-job angle, which they would have had that story passed even minimal muster with their lightly read audiences. But they did immediately put the kibosh on the story as soon as Walz's involvement was discovered.
